Meet The Giant Slayers Of 2024 Lok Sabha Polls
As the clock ticks into its tenth hour of counting, the pulse of India's electorate begins to take shape. While final outcomes remain pending in many constituencies, trends reveal the downfall of some prominent figures in this electoral showdown.
Sowmya Reddy
Tejasvi Surya, the Bharatiya Janata Party's youthful leader and MP, has secured victory in Karnataka's Bangalore South constituency with an impressive margin of 2,77,083 votes, as reported by the Election Commission of India. Surya's spirited challenger on the seat was the Congress party's Sowmya Reddy, who faced defeat despite her valiant efforts. Notably, Surya continues the legacy of the BJP in Bangalore South, a stronghold since 1991, previously represented by his late father, Madhavrao Scindia, and grandmother, Vijayaraje Scindia.

Annamalai
Another BJP hopeful, K. Annamalai, former engineer-turned-IPS officer, entered the political fray from the Coimbatore constituency in Tamil Nadu. However, counting trends indicate Annamalai's trailing by over 51,000 votes behind DMK candidate Ganapthy Rajkumar P.
Omar Abdullah
In a surprising turn of events, former Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader Omar Abdullah conceded defeat to Independent candidate Abdul Rashid Sheikh, trailing by over 2 lakh votes.
Digvijaya Singh
Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh faces a tough battle in the Rajgarh seat, trailing by a margin of 42,981 votes. Singh, contesting after nearly 33 years, contends against BJP's Rodmal Nagar and BSP's Dr. Rajendra Suryavanshi.
Mehbooba Mufti
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti faces disappointing results, trailing behind Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader Mian Altaf Ahmad by a margin of over 2.7 lakh votes.
Smriti Irani
In a notable upset, BJP stalwart Smriti Irani, who famously defeated Rahul Gandhi in Amethi in the previous elections, suffered defeat in the same constituency, losing to Congress candidate Kishori Lal Sharma by a margin of 1,66,000 votes.
Yusuf Pathan
Former cricketer Yusuf Pathan, contesting for Trinamool Congress from Baharampur Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal, emerges as a formidable contender, leading against seasoned Congressman Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury by over 75,000 votes.
