Manipur Tripartite Talks Concerning Rollback of Seven Districts Conclude Without Resolution
The discussions between the Centre, Manipur government, and United Naga Council (UNC) on Friday in Senapati district ended without any resolution. The talks centred on the UNC's demand to reverse the creation of seven districts in 2016. These districts—Kamjong, Pherzawl, Kakching, Kangpokpi, Tengnoupal, Noney, and Jiribam—were established under the previous Congress administration led by O Ibobi Singh.

Focus on District Creation
The meeting primarily addressed the issue of these districts' formation by the Manipur government in December 2016. A joint statement from representatives of the Centre, state government, and UNC highlighted this focus. Despite discussions, Manipur's representatives could not present a solid proposal due to certain challenges. The UNC expressed dissatisfaction with this lack of a proposal and insisted it be provided in future talks.
Both parties agreed to continue discussions in a constructive manner to find a political solution while considering past commitments. The atmosphere during the meeting was described as cordial. It was decided that further progress would be pursued through sustained engagement.
The next round of discussions is scheduled for the last week of January. This ongoing dialogue aims to address the concerns raised by the UNC regarding district creation and seek a mutually agreeable resolution.
