Mamata Banerjee Expresses Gratitude To Opposition Leaders For Supporting Her To Lead INDIA Bloc
West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her appreciation to opposition leaders who endorsed her as a potential leader of the INDIA bloc. "I am grateful to all the leaders who have honoured me. I wish good health to all of them. May they be well, may their party be well. May India be well," she stated.
Banerjee's comments came after she voiced dissatisfaction with the current state of the opposition alliance. She suggested that she could lead the INDIA bloc if given the opportunity. In an interview with News 18 Bangla, she remarked, "I had formed the INDIA bloc, now it is up to those leading the front to manage it. If they can't run the show, what can I do? I would just say that everyone needs to be taken along."

Support from Key Opposition Leaders
The Trinamool Congress chief received backing from prominent figures like Lalu Yadav and Sharad Pawar. Both leaders expressed confidence in Banerjee's ability to lead the alliance effectively. Lalu Yadav stated that Banerjee should take charge of the INDIA bloc, which was established ahead of the Lok Sabha elections to challenge the BJP.
Pawar echoed similar sentiments about Banerjee's leadership capabilities. He said, "Yes certainly (she is capable of leading the alliance), she is a prominent leader of this nation… she has that capability.. the elected leaders she sent in the parliament are responsible, dutiful and well aware people… therefore she has the right to say so…"
Potential Leadership Role
Banerjee has emerged as a significant anti-BJP figure but has shown hesitation in assuming a leadership role within the bloc. When questioned about this reluctance, she responded that if given a chance, she would ensure smooth functioning from Bengal itself without needing to step outside.
Lalu Yadav dismissed Congress's objections regarding Banerjee's leadership potential. He asserted that they would support her and predicted forming a government again in 2025 under her leadership.
The discussion around Banerjee's potential leadership role in the INDIA bloc highlights ongoing dynamics within India's political landscape as parties prepare for upcoming elections.
