Maharashtra: Hailstorm lashes parts of Marathwada region killing 2 people, destroying crops
Two people lost their lives and several crops were damaged after an unexpected hailstorm hit the Marathwada region on Sunday morning. The government has ordered an assessment of the damage to crops. A senior revenue official said the hailstorm started around 7.30 a.m. and continued for the next 30 minutes.
Hailstones weighing as much as 34 grams resulted in deaths of Namdev Shinde, 62, and Asaram Jagtap, 65 from Jalna.
Beed, Osmanabad, Latur, Nanded, Parbhani, Hingoli, Dhule, Nandurbar, Aurangabad and other districts reported heavy rain on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, Light rain, measuring up to 4 mm to 7 mm, is expected over Pune, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur on Monday and widespread rain, up to 20 mm, is expected in Vidarbha and some of the adjoining parts of Marathwada until February 13.
