Maha Kumbh 2025 Gets a Tech Twist With Virtual Reality Experience
The Maha Kumbh, an event that holds immense spiritual and cultural significance in India, has embraced modern technology to offer a unique experience to its attendees this year. The introduction of a Virtual Reality (VR) zone, a first of its kind at the festival, marks a significant leap towards blending tradition with technology. This innovative approach aligns with the government's ambition to create a "Digital Kumbh," enhancing the visitor's experience by incorporating advanced digital tools.
The VR zone, situated within the camp of Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan in the Mela area, offers attendees the chance to delve into the Maha Kumbh and various mythological tales through cutting-edge 3D and VFX technology. Spanning over nine acres in Sector 9 of the Mahakumbh Nagar, the camp was inaugurated on Wednesday, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in a digital rendition of ancient rituals and stories. This interactive digital space utilizes VR headsets to create a compelling environment that simulates physical presence through vivid visuals, sound, and sometimes even touch.

Sadhvi Tapeshwari Bharti, a spokesperson for the organization, revealed, "Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the Maha Kumbh and mythological stories through advanced 3D and VFX technology." This initiative is not only expected to attract a large number of visitors but also aims to provide an educational experience by recreating mythological and cultural themes in an engaging manner. With an anticipated attendance exceeding 20 lakh people from both India and abroad, the event is set to surpass the 17 lakh visitors recorded during the last Kumbh.
The camp's commitment to environmentally sustainable practices is another highlight, with efforts to ensure zero use of plastic. "We have ensured zero use of plastic in setting up this camp. Instead, we have used eco-friendly materials such as jute, bamboo, clay, palm leaves, and hogla grass," Bharti emphasized. This initiative reflects a conscious effort to minimize the environmental impact of the event.
In addition to the VR zone, the camp will host a series of spiritual and cultural programs over 33 days, featuring prominent personalities such as Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, MP and actor Ravi Kishan, BJP leader Anurag Thakur, and Padma Shri awardee singer Malini Awasthi. These events aim to offer a rich cultural experience to all attendees.
The Maha Kumbh's global appeal is evident from the participation of a 21-member delegation from 10 countries, invited by the External Publicity and Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. The delegation, which arrived on Wednesday, will take part in a sacred dip at the Sangam, with arrangements for their stay provided at the Tent City in Arail, developed by the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation.
The integration of technology into this year's Maha Kumbh not only elevates the visitor's experience but also showcases India's capability to harmonize its rich heritage with modern advancements. This innovative approach paves the way for a new era of cultural festivals, where tradition meets technology to offer immersive and educational experiences to a global audience.
