Congress bastion Rae Bareli, is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, with a total of 1,702,248 registered voters in 2019, as per the Election Commission of India. This constituency is not reserved for any specific category and includes five assembly segments: Bachhrawan (SC), Harchandpur, Rae Bareli, Sareni, and Unchahar, all located within Raebareli district.

This time Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is contesting from this seat after his mother and former CWC chief Sonia Gandhi moved to Rajya Sabha.

Historically, Rae Bareli has been a stronghold of the Indian National Congress. It has been represented by notable figures such as Feroze Gandhi (1952 and 1957), former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi (1967, 1971, and 1980), and most recently, Sonia Gandhi, who served from 2004 until her appointment to the Rajya Sabha in 2024. The constituency is also famous for the 1977 election when Raj Narain of the Janata Party defeated Indira Gandhi.

However, Sonia Gandhi's vote share has been declining over the years. In 2009, she secured more than 70% of the votes, but this dropped to 56% by 2019. In the last election, the BJP candidate garnered over 38% of the votes, showing a significant rise compared to the 21% and 16% secured by the runners-up in 2014 and 2009, respectively.

Rae Bareli continues to be a significant constituency due to its political history and its association with prominent leaders of the Congress party. Despite the decline in vote share for Congress, it remains a key battleground in Uttar Pradesh politics.
