A content creator named Mahi Khan faced an unsettling situation on an Air India flight from Kolkata to Mumbai. A fellow passenger insisted that Khan speak Marathi, saying, "You are going to Mumbai, you should know Marathi." When Khan replied he didn't understand the language, she retorted with "No English." The woman wore a shirt featuring a Hyundai logo.

Khan expressed his frustration over the incident, questioning the behaviour of the woman. He shared his experience on Instagram, stating, "Speak Marathi or leave Mumbai. That's what this lady told me on my Air India flight AI676 today, before threatening me for saying 'I don't understand Marathi.' Yes, this happened in 2025, in a country that proudly says 'Unity in Diversity.'" He added that no one should be forced to speak a language or bullied for not doing so.

The incident quickly gained attention online. One social media user tagged Hyundai India, demanding a public apology and highlighting concerns about the company's brand integrity due to the woman's actions. The post sparked various reactions from users who were appalled by the situation.

Khan urged Air India to take strict action against such behaviour. He emphasised that passengers should not feel unsafe or humiliated for speaking a different language. He questioned the mentality behind such actions and called for accountability.

This isn't an isolated case. Previously, on a Mumbai local train, another woman demanded someone learn Marathi or "get out." She stated, "If you want to stay in our Mumbai, speak Marathi; otherwise, get out." Such incidents highlight ongoing tensions regarding language use in certain regions.

During the flight altercation, Khan was seated near the woman who occupied seat 16A. She began shouting at him to converse in Marathi because they were flying to Mumbai. Khan expressed disbelief at being bullied over language preference during travel.
