KVIC Creates History: Khadi & Village Industries Cross Rs 1.87 Lakh Crore Turnover Under PM Modi's Leadership

Releasing the provisional figures for FY 2025-26 at Gandhi Darshan, Rajghat in New Delhi, KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar said the khadi and village industries sector has witnessed unprecedented growth in production, sales and employment over the past 12 years. According to KVIC data, the sector's total turnover reached Rs 1,87,105 crore in FY 2025-26, marking its highest-ever performance. Compared to FY 2013-14, sales have increased by 501 percent, while production has grown by 380 percent. Employment generation has also risen by 56 percent, with more than 2.04 crore people now associated with the sector.

Employment Generation Crosses 2 Crore
KVIC also achieved a major milestone in employment generation. Total employment in the khadi and village industries sector increased from 1.30 crore in FY 2013-14 to 2.04 crore in FY 2025-26.
Under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), 66,494 new units were established during FY 2025-26, generating employment for more than 7.31 lakh people. Since the launch of the scheme, over 10.84 lakh units have been established across the country, creating livelihood opportunities for nearly 98 lakh people.
Rural Artisans Empowered Through Toolkits and Machinery
Under the Gramodyog Vikas Yojana, KVIC distributed thousands of machines and toolkits to strengthen rural artisans and traditional industries. These included electric pottery wheels, bee boxes, agarbatti-making machines, footwear toolkits, paper plate machines and woodcraft equipment. More than 37,000 machines and toolkits were distributed during FY 2025-26 alone, taking the cumulative total to over 3.23 lakh.
Women Play Key Role in Sector Growth
Women participation has emerged as a major strength of the KVIC ecosystem. During FY 2025-26, around 79,682 people received training under KVIC programmes, of which nearly 59 percent were women.
Under PMEGP, 28,180 women entrepreneurs established new units during the year, generating employment for more than 3 lakh women. More than 80 percent of artisans in the khadi sector are women, making it a strong pillar of women-led economic empowerment in rural India.
Artisans' Wages Increased by 275 Percent
KVIC also highlighted a major increase in artisans' wages. The remuneration paid to khadi artisans has increased from Rs 4 per hank in FY 2013-14 to Rs 15 per hank currently, registering a rise of nearly 275 percent.
Demand for Khadi Products and National Flags Rises
Government procurement of khadi and village industry products touched Rs 92.08 crore, while exhibitions and marketing activities generated sales worth Rs 30.83 crore.
Demand for the national flag also increased significantly. Sales of the tricolour rose from Rs 0.87 crore in FY 2013-14 to Rs 2.35 crore in FY 2025-26, largely driven by initiatives such as the "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign. KVIC officials said the sector's strong performance will further strengthen the vision of "Viksit Bharat @2047" by accelerating rural manufacturing, entrepreneurship and employment generation across the country.
