Alia Bhatt's Alpha Overtakes Jigra In Opening Weekend, Targets ₹150 Crore Milestone

YRF's spy thriller Alpha has managed to gain momentum at the box office during its opening weekend. The action entertainer led by Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, has crossed the ₹50 crore mark worldwide within just three days of release. The film now stands in the same league as Alia's successful films Raazi and Gangubai Kathiawadi.

The film released on Friday with across nearly 9,000 screens in India. Alpha began its theatrical journey with advance bookings worth more than ₹6 crore. The film collected ₹9.25 crore net on its opening day, but eventually witnessed strong growth over Saturday and Sunday. By the end of its first weekend, the film earned approx. ₹34 crore net at the domestic box office, which is around ₹40.8 crore gross.

Upcoming Competition For Alpha

The next major hurdle for the film is the crucial Monday test. The film has no major competition at the box-office in terms of Hindi releases apart from Dhamaal 4. If it manages to maintain steady weekday collection, Alpha could benefit from a relatively open box-office window.

The Film Thrives In International Markets

The film has performed even better in international markets. Overseas, Alpha earned approximately $2 million during its opening weekend, pushing its worldwide gross collection to an estimated ₹58.8 crore in just three days. Alpha beats the record of Alia Bhatt's previous theatrical release, Jigra, which received positive reviews but struggled commercially. Approximately, the film earned a worldwide gross of ₹55 crore. Remarkably, Alpha has already surpassed that figure within its opening weekend.

The spy thriller has also registered a stronger opening than two of Alia Bhatt's biggest female-led successes. Gangubai Kathiawadi had collected around ₹55 crore globally during its opening weekend, while Raazi earned approximately ₹43 crore in the same period. Both films eventually crossed the ₹150 crore worldwide mark, that now serves as an important benchmark for Alpha.
