Prohibitory Orders Imposed For Mahakumbh 2025: Strict Measures In Place Until February 28
To maintain peace during the Mahakumbh Mela 2025, Prayagraj authorities have issued a prohibitory order from January 16 to February 28, restricting gatherings and certain activities.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 and various other religious festivals and competitive examinations, authorities in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, have implemented a prohibitory order effective from January 16 to February 28, ANI reported.
This decision aims to mitigate any disruptions to law and order within the district during this period. The Additional Commissioner of Police, Prayagraj, has issued these orders under the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023, also known as Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. This move is in anticipation of the numerous events scheduled, including Mahakumbh 2025/Amrit Snan, Republic Day, and Valentine’s Day, among others.

The prohibitory order encompasses several stipulations designed to maintain peace and order. Notably, no individual is allowed to organize or participate in any event, procession, or demonstration without the express permission of the competent authority. The use of drones is strictly limited to police and administrative operations, barring any usage during traditional religious events without prior approval. Additionally, the order restricts the carrying of weapons and the use of social media to spread rumors that could incite communal tension.
These measures are a response to the communal sensitivity of the district and the potential for antisocial elements to disrupt harmony. "In view of the communal sensitivity of the district, on the basis of information received from reliable sources, I am convinced that there is a possibility of anti-social elements causing disruption in law and order of the district.
In view of the said festivals, there is an urgent need to maintain peace," stated the Additional Commissioner of Police. Restrictions also extend to the prohibition of protests outside designated areas, the carrying of certain objects such as sticks and weapons, and the distribution of material that could incite communal discord.
Furthermore, the prohibitory measures include bans on actions that could obstruct public ways or the operation of businesses and public services. These actions are critical in ensuring that the district remains peaceful and functional, particularly during the significant influx of visitors and participants in the Mahakumbh Mela and related events.
The Mahakumbh Mela, which commenced on January 13, is a pivotal event attracting millions of devotees and tourists. With the next significant bathing dates scheduled for January 29 (Mauni Amavasya - Second Shahi Snan), February 3 (Basant Panchami - Third Shahi Snan), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri), the authorities are taking no chances in maintaining order and safety.
In essence, the prohibitory order set by the Prayagraj authorities reflects a comprehensive approach to ensuring the peaceful conduct of the Mahakumbh Mela 2025 and other important events. By restricting certain activities and requiring permissions for gatherings, the district aims to prevent any disturbances that could disrupt the communal harmony and safety of its residents and visitors.
