Mohan Bhagwat Urges Keeping Ego at Bay for Selfless Service and National Development

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasised the importance of humility, warning against letting ego take control. Speaking at Bharat Vikas Parishad's Viklang Kendra's silver jubilee event, he referenced Ramakrishna Paramahansa's teachings on the "ripened I" and "raw I" to illustrate his point. Bhagwat explained that while everyone possesses an inner divine force inspiring societal service, ego can also be present.

Mohan Bhagwat on Ego and Service

Bhagwat highlighted the necessity of empowering all societal segments for India's growth. He stated that national progress extends beyond mere service. Service should aim to enable citizens to actively contribute to development. According to him, capable citizens are the driving force behind a nation's advancement.

Empowering Society for Progress

He noted a prevalent belief that societal issues are widespread. However, for every negative aspect, there are significantly more positive and noble service activities occurring. Bhagwat stressed the importance of raising awareness about these positive efforts, as they build lasting trust within society.

Bhagwat shared Ramakrishna Paramahansa's concept of two "I"s within individuals: one raw and one ripened. The "ripened I" represents maturity and wisdom, while the "raw I" symbolises ego. He advised embracing the ripened self and avoiding the raw self to prevent falling into pitfalls.

The Role of Selfless Service

He praised Bharat Vikas Parishad's Viklang Kendra for its work with specially abled individuals. The organisation provides modular legs, callipers, and artificial limbs, significantly aiding those in need. Bhagwat acknowledged the RSS's role in societal initiatives but credited volunteers for their dedication.

Bhagwat mentioned that genuine happiness and satisfaction arise from selfless service. This mindset fosters a greater inclination to assist others. He stated, "There is a growing perception that everything in society is going wrong. However, for every negative aspect, there are 40 times more good and noble service activities taking place in the community."

The RSS chief concluded by highlighting that while the organisation receives recognition for various initiatives, it is the volunteers who deserve praise for their efforts. Their commitment to service plays a crucial role in fostering trust and unity within society.
