Justice Verma's family refuses to accept the Padma Bhushan

Justice Verma's family writes to Prez
New Delhi, Jan 31: The family of late Justice JS Verma has refused to accept the Padma Bhushan award on his behalf.

They have also written to the President that he never hankered or lobbied for any acclaim, reward or favour.

The family has indicated that they were upset about no official confirmation given to them regarding the award and they only came to know about it through media reports. Reports also suggest that Justice JS Verma's family feels that he should have been given a higher award.

Verma, who headed the government committee to frame stricter laws in the wake of the December 16 Delhi gangrape had been awarded the Padma Bhushan posthumously in the public affairs category.
