Jharkhand CEO Orders Probe into Allegations Against JMM MLA Dashrath Gagrai for Fake Identity Use

Jharkhand's Chief Electoral Officer has initiated an investigation into allegations that JMM MLA Dashrath Gagrai used a fake identity during elections. The complaint, filed by Lalji Ram Tiu, raises questions about the MLA's authenticity.

Jharkhand's chief electoral officer, K Ravikumar, has instructed the Seraikela-Kharsawan deputy commissioner to investigate allegations against JMM MLA Dashrath Gagrai. The accusations suggest that Gagrai used a false identity during elections. Lalji Ram Tiu, who filed the complaint, questions the identity of the three-term Kharsawan MLA. Gagrai dismissed these claims, stating that Tiu frequently makes such allegations against officials.

The complaint, supported by an affidavit from Tiu, was forwarded to Deputy Commissioner Nitish Kumar Singh for investigation. The CEO mentioned that controversies involving MLAs post-election should be addressed by the state governor, while those involving MPs fall under the President's jurisdiction. The complaint was initially lodged on July 28, challenging the identity of the current MLA.

Lalji Ram Tiu, claiming to be a former serviceman, alleged that the person serving as MLA under the name Dashrath Gagrai is actually Ramkrishna Gagrai, the elder brother of the real Dashrath Gagrai. In a signed affidavit dated September 18, Tiu reaffirmed his claims using personal knowledge and official records to support his allegations legally.

When approached for comments, Dashrath Gagrai refuted the accusations as baseless. He stated, "I have submitted affidavits and documents, which have undergone scrutiny for three terms in the assembly polls. The charges are baseless." Gagrai further claimed that Tiu is an accused individual out on bail for allegedly raping a minor and has a tendency to make such allegations against those in power.
