JMM Candidates List For Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024: CM Hemant Soren To Contest From Barhait

For the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024, ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) released its first list of candidates on Wednesday. JMM's list of candidates comprised 35 names, including Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren's name who will be contesting assembly polls from the Barhait seat.

Elections for 81 assembly seats of Jharkhand, will be held in two phases on November 13 and November 20. The counting of votes for Jharkhand polling will be done on November 23, along with Maharashtra.

Key Candidates Announced

Among other notable candidates, Kalpana Soren who secured victory in the Gandey by-election, will again take the field.

Basant Soren, Hemant's younger brother, will contest from Dumka. In 2019, Hemant won both Dumka and Barhet but chose to retain Barhet, leading to Basant's victory in the subsequent 2020 by-election.

The JMM has decided to field many of its successful candidates from the 2019 elections once more. This includes Sudivya Kumar Sonu from Giridih, Niral Purti from Majhgaon, Deepak Birua from Chaibasa, Bhushan Tirkey from Gumla, Jiga Susaran Horo from Sisai, and Hafizul Ansari from Madhupur.

Returning MLAs

Several MLAs who triumphed in 2019 have been given another chance to contest. Rabindranath Mahato will represent Nala again, Vikas Munda will stand for Tamar, Mathura Mahato for Tundi, Mithilesh Thakur for Garhwa, and Baidyanath Ram for Latehar.

In the previous assembly elections of 2019, JMM saw success with 30 MLAs securing seats. However, Shikaripara MLA Nalin Soren transitioned to an MP role. Additionally, Champai Soren, Lobin Hembram, and Seema Soren switched allegiance to BJP.
