JK Police to Recruit SPOs from Militancy-Hit Villages in Rajouri

In response to recent terror activities in Rajouri and Poonch, police are recruiting Special Police Officers (SPOs) from 22 villages heavily impacted by militancy. This follows the announcement by Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain to strengthen village defence groups and SPOs in Jammu and Kashmir.

SPO Recruitment in Rajouris Villages

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri, Amritpal Singh, stated that applications are open for eligible male candidates from these 22 villages. The selected candidates will receive a monthly honorarium. The deadline for submission is July 9.

Focus on Militancy-Affected Villages

The recruitment drive targets villages including Azmatabad, Bangahai, Shahadara, Dhara-Mangota, Lah, Chalal Baghlan, Dhara village, Topa Madoon, Dhar Sakri, Deri Kathuni, Saada, Kandra, Gabber Guleir, Bei Nambal, Kenthipada, Keri, Chawani-Phagoli Bhella, Thuni Gala-Dori Forest Gunda, Narla Bumbel, Bhajimal, Khah, Jamola, and Jatta Mallian-Brahmana.

Officials indicated that this initiative aims to monitor the movements of suspected terrorists active in the region for over a year. Several terrorist attacks have occurred in the Poonch-Rajouri-Reasi belt over the past two years.

Recent Terror Incidents

The most recent incident took place on June 12 in Reasi when a bus fell into a gorge after terrorists opened fire at it. Nine people were killed and 41 others injured in the incident.

On Friday, the DGP rewarded nine courageous SPOs for their role in assisting security forces to neutralise two terrorists in Hiranagar area of Kathua.

This measure is part of a broader strategy to enhance security and counter-terrorism efforts in Jammu and Kashmir. By recruiting local SPOs from affected villages, authorities aim to bolster surveillance and response capabilities against terrorist activities.

The recruitment of SPOs is seen as a crucial step towards stabilising the region and ensuring the safety of its residents. The involvement of local residents is expected to provide valuable insights and support to security forces operating in these areas.

This initiative underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to address the ongoing threat of terrorism and protect communities in Jammu and Kashmir.
