Is Adani Taking Over IRCTC? Here's What The Website Says

After Adani Enterprise announced its intentions to buy a 100 per cent stake in online train ticket booking platform Trainman, owned by Stark Enterprises Private Limited, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh claimed that the company will next purchase Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

However, the IRCTC has quickly responded to the Congress leader's comments that his remarks are "misleading" and said that 'Trainman' is one of its business partners.

"This is a misleading statement. Trainman is one of the 32 authorized B2C (Business to Customer) partners of IRCTC. Changing the stake won't make any difference. All integration and operations will continue to be done through IRCTC. It will only complement IRCTC and is not a threat or challenge to IRCTC," it responded to Ramesh's tweet.

Days ago, Adani Enterprise said that it was set to purchase a 100 per cent stake in Trainman.

"With reference to the captioned subject (Intimation for execution of Share Purchase Agreement in relation to acquisition of 100% stake in Stark Enterprises Private Limited), we would like to inform you that Adani Digital Labs Private Limited ("ADL"), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company has signed a Share Purchase Agreement ("SPA") in relation to its proposed acquisition of 100% stake in Stark Enterprises Private Limited ("SEPL"), also known as Trainman, an online train booking and information platform," Adani Enterprises informed Indian stock market.

On the purpose of the agreement, the company said, "The SPA records the terms of agreement with respect to the acquisition of 100% equity shares of SEPL and the inter se rights and obligations and other matters in connection therewith."

Responding to this development, Ramesh had taken a dig at Adani, who is often targeted by the Congress over his proximity with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Also, the Congress had earlier targeted the government accusing it of trying to privatise the Indian Railways.

Rahul Gandhi had earlier claimed that 151 trains were being privatised by the current regime. However, the allegations were debunked by the Press Information Bureau saying "A tweet falsely claims that 151 Indian Railways trains, railway assets, stations and hospitals have been privatised."
