The six-day International Shri Renuka Ji Fair commenced on Wednesday afternoon in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, marked by the enthusiastic welcome of Lord Parshuram's palanquin, symbolizing his arrival at his mother's abode. Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania graced the inaugural ceremony held at the Dr Y S Parmar Senior Secondary School ground in Dadahu.
Shobha Yatra Led by Assembly Speaker

Pathania initiated the grand "shobha yatra" of Lord Parshuram by reverently lifting the silver palanquin on his shoulders. The religious welcome ceremony, known as Devabhinandan, took place as Lord Parshuram's palanquin arrived at Dadahu from a temple in Jamu Koti village. Six additional palanquins carrying other deities joined the procession from various parts of the district. Thousands of devotees participated in the joyous celebration, chanting Vedic hymns, singing devotional bhajans, and playing traditional instruments like "runsinghas," trumpets, and drums.
Devotees Throng the Fair
The vibrant "shobha yatra" traversed through the Dadahu market, accompanied by the soulful melodies of "devdhun" - ancient Sirmauri devotional songs dedicated to Lord Parshuram and Bhagwati Renuka Ji. It took approximately three hours for the palanquins to complete the 2-kilometer-long procession, culminating on the banks of the sacred Shri Renuka Ji Lake. The palanquins were then placed at the ancient Parshuram temple for devotees to offer their prayers and seek blessings.
Religious Significance
Acharya Surendra Sharma, a renowned Bhagwat Kathakar, highlighted the profound significance of the fair as the largest annual gathering in Sirmaur district for thousands of years. He noted that the religious assembly finds mention in several ancient scriptures, including the Skand Purana and Brahmand Puran. Devotees from across Himachal Pradesh and neighboring states such as Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi flock to the fair to participate in the festivities.
Traditions and Festivities
Suresh Kumar Pundir, a prominent social worker from the Renuka area, emphasized the cherished tradition of spending a night under the sky in the fairgrounds as a testament to devotees' devotion to Lord Parshuram and Bhagwati Renuka Ji. Elaborate security arrangements have been implemented to ensure the safety of the thousands of devotees expected to visit the holy tirtha for a purifying dip on Thursday. The fair will culminate on Kartika Purnima, November 27, bringing the six-day extravaganza to a close.
The International Shri Renuka Ji Fair stands as a testament to the deep-rooted cultural heritage and profound spiritual significance of Himachal Pradesh. As devotees come together to celebrate the divine presence of Lord Parshuram and Bhagwati Renuka Ji, the fair serves as a reminder of the enduring power of faith and devotion.
