The partnership was formally launched at Manyavar Kanshiram Samyukth Chikitsalay and Trauma Centre in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. According to the organisations, Uttar Pradesh records one of the highest burdens of clubfoot cases in the country, with an estimated 6,000 children born with the condition every year.
Clubfoot is a congenital condition in which one or both feet are turned inward at birth. The condition affects nearly one in every 800 newborns and can be effectively treated using the globally recognised Ponseti method. However, delayed diagnosis and limited access to treatment continue to affect many children, particularly in underserved communities.
Under the programme, 67 clubfoot clinics across 61 districts will be supported over the next three years. The initiative will focus on community outreach, clinical care, capacity building and family support to improve treatment outcomes.
The programme also aims to strengthen the capabilities of 51 healthcare professionals and sensitise more than 30,000 frontline health workers to improve early detection and timely referral of children with clubfoot.
Speaking on the partnership, Dr Priti Adani, Chairperson of the Adani Foundation, said that early identification and treatment can help children with clubfoot lead more independent lives and participate fully in education and community activities.
Deepak Premnarayen, Founder of the Anushkaa Foundation, said the collaboration would help expand access to quality treatment while strengthening systems for early diagnosis and intervention across the five states.
India records an estimated 33,000 clubfoot births annually, with nearly 12,000 occurring in the five states covered under the programme. The organisations said the initiative seeks to address a significant share of the country's clubfoot burden through sustainable public health systems, improved referral pathways and family support mechanisms.
The Adani Foundation, established in 1996, works across sectors including healthcare, education, sustainable livelihoods, climate action and community development. The foundation operates in 22 states and reaches more than 13.3 million beneficiaries annually.
The Anushkaa Foundation, a nonprofit organisation focused on eliminating clubfoot through public health partnerships, currently supports treatment programmes across 165 districts in 13 states. The organisation has facilitated care for more than 26,000 children and states that one in six children born with clubfoot in India receives treatment through an Anushkaa-supported clinic.
