Indu Malhotra set to take oath as Supreme Court judge on Friday
The appointment of the senior advocate, Indu Malhotra as Supreme Court judge has been cleared by the Centre. Indu Malhotra becomes the first woman to be appointed as judge of Supreme Court directly from the bar.

She is expected to take oath on Friday. The Centre has however not yet cleared the name of Uttarakhand High Court Chief Justice K M Joseph.
On January 22, the Supreme Court Collegium's file recommending the elevation of Justice Joseph and Malhotra reached the Law Ministry.
After processing the file in February, the recommendations were kept in abeyance as the government wanted to elevate only Malhotra.
