Indian Billionaire Steps Up: Repays ₹8 Lakh Loan for Kerala Woman Evicted from Her Home

In a heartwarming act of generosity, an Indian billionaire from Abu Dhabi, MA Yusuff Ali, extended a helping hand to a distressed family in Kerala, making a significant difference in their lives. Sandhya, a resident of North Paravur, Kerala, and her two children were left homeless after being evicted from their house over an unpaid loan. The chairman of Lulu Group, Ali, didn't just settle the outstanding loan amount but also provided an additional Rs 10 lakh to assist the family in rebuilding their lives.

Sandhya's plight came into the spotlight following local media coverage of her eviction. The family had initially borrowed Rs 4 lakh from Manappuram Finance in 2019 for completing their house under Kerala's Life Housing Scheme, as reported by Mathrubhumi, a Malayalam media outlet. The construction was on a 4.8-cent plot in Madaplathuruth, and the loan, registered in Sandhya's name, was due to the escalating costs of building materials which hindered the project's completion.

However, the family's situation took a dire turn in 2021 when Sandhya's husband abandoned them, stopping loan repayments. As a result, the debt, with added interest, surged to nearly Rs 8 lakh. Manappuram Finance warned the family repeatedly before finally foreclosing on the property. On a Monday, the company's officials took over the house, changing the locks and forcing Sandhya and her children out, without allowing them even to collect their essentials, including medicines.

The eviction caught the attention of VD Satheesan, the Opposition leader, who called on the financial institution to permit the family to return to their home, as Mathrubhumi reported. The incident sparked protests among the local community, which led to the intervention of MA Yusuff Ali. The UAE-based businessman, originally from Kerala, directed his team in India to completely settle the loan and generously donated Rs 10 lakh to Sandhya, enhancing her ability to provide for her family.

On the evening of the same Monday, a representative from Lulu Group handed the keys back to Sandhya, effectively returning her home to her. The additional funds provided by Mr Yusuff Ali were to be placed in a fixed deposit, securing the family's future financially. This gesture of kindness offered Sandhya, who was struggling to support her family by working at a local cloth shop, a much-needed reprieve and hope.

MA Yusuff Ali's timely intervention not only restored Sandhya's home but also ensured her family's long-term security and stability. This act of compassion underscores the profound impact of community support and the difference that individual acts of benevolence can make in the lives of those in need.
