The announcement of Cocktail 2 was enough to spark speculation regarding its storyline. The trailer has now become a major topic of online discussion. One particular rumour gained widespread attention and became one of the most talked-about topics online. It suggested that the story involves a romantic relationship between Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna. Now, the cast and makers have finally put an end to those claims.

Trailer Launch Event

On Tuesday, the makers addressed the buzz during the film's trailer launch event in Mumbai. They clarified that the upcoming romantic drama does not feature a lesbian love story. Lead actors Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna, along with director Homi Adajania and producer Dinesh Vijan, were present at the event.

The discussion arose when Rashmika was asked about rumours linking her character romantically with Kriti's. Before Rashmika could respond, Kriti playfully hinted that the speculation might have originated from within their own circle. She looked towards Shahid and jokingly said, "I think the rumours are coming from one place only."

Rashmika seemed to agree with her co-star, leading the audience to laugh at Kriti's comment. Meanwhile, Shahid quickly distanced himself from the gossip and stated, "I didn't say anything, guys. Why would I want it that way? I have nothing to do with that. Kaha se aa rahe hain rumours?"

How Did The Rumour Emerge?

Director Homi Adajania explained that the conversation began casually on set but later evolved into a full-fledged internet theory.

Homi mentioned that while filming, the cast was casually discussing different story possibilities. He revealed that Kriti and Rashmika share a warm friendship and were often seen spending time together on set. Their friendship sparked a hypothetical discussion about an alternate storyline.

"This is actually where the rumour started," Homi said. "We were sitting on set one day and noticed how comfortable and friendly they are with each other. Someone jokingly wondered what would happen if the story revolved around them, with Shahid ending up as the third wheel. I remember saying that I wouldn't mind making a film like that."

Is Cocktail 2 A Lesbian Love Story?

Producer Dinesh Vijan stepped in to end the speculation once and for all. He clarified the film's actual storyline and said that it revolves around two separate love tracks. The film has nothing to do with the rumours that have been circulating online.

"So, guys we were supposed to clear this up. In the trailer there are two love stories, purana love aur naya love and ye Luv (Ranjan). Aur kuchh nahi hai kisi ka love nahi hai is picture mein."

The trailer offers a glimpse into the complicated emotional journey of the film's three lead characters. While Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna's characters appear to be romantically involved, Kriti Sanon's character seems to share a close friendship with Shahid that gradually develops into deeper feelings.

Directed by Homi Adajania, Cocktail 2 is all set to release in theatres on June 19. The film serves as a spiritual successor to the 2012 hit Cocktail, which starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty.

Kriti Sanon had previously clarified that the new film is not a direct continuation of the earlier story. Instead, it is a franchise film that carries forward the spirit of Cocktail while introducing an entirely new narrative and fresh characters.
