India Labels Pakistan a 'Rogue State' at UN After Minister Admits to Terror Links

India launched a pointed attack on Pakistan at the United Nations, condemning its open support for terrorism just days after the deadly Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives. During the launch of the Victims of Terrorism Association Network (VOTAN) at the UN, India's Deputy Permanent Representative, Ambassador Yojna Patel, cited the televised confession made by Pakistan's Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif.

In his statement, Asif acknowledged Pakistan's longstanding role in funding and backing terrorist organizations. Patel emphasized that this confession "surprised no one," revealing Pakistan as a "rogue state" fueling global terrorism.

Patel criticized Pakistan for exploiting the UN platform for propaganda, accusing it of making baseless allegations against India. "The world has heard Pakistan's Defence Minister openly admit to Pakistan's long history of supporting, training, and funding terrorism," Patel remarked.

Her comments come at a time of heightened tensions between the two nations. Following the Pahalgam attack on April 22, India directly blamed Pakistan-based groups for carrying out the assault, while Pakistan denied any involvement and called for an impartial investigation.

Quoting Asif's admission of Pakistan's "dirty work" in supporting terrorism for Western interests, Patel urged the international community to recognize Islamabad's destabilizing actions in the region. "The world can no longer afford to ignore this," she stated.

The aftermath of the attack has been swift. India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, expelled Pakistani diplomats, and shut down the Wagah border crossing. At the same time, small-arms fire has continued along the Kashmir border for the fifth consecutive night, with calls for restraint from China and diplomatic appeals from the United States.

As tensions persist, global attention is now focused on efforts to prevent further escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
