India Showcases Ayushman Bharat and Digital Health at World Health Assembly
India is set to showcase its advancements in universal health coverage, public health emergency preparedness, and digital health transformations at the upcoming World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva, starting May 27. Official sources confirmed that the country would also present the Arogya Maitri Disaster Management Cube, a pioneering portable hospital, at this significant global health event organized by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The 77th session of the WHA, running from May 27 to June 1, will see participation from representatives of 194 countries. The Indian delegation, led by Union Health Secretary Apurva Chandra from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, aims to contribute significantly to shaping the global health ecosystem. The theme for this year's assembly is "All for Health, Health for All," emphasizing a collective approach to global health challenges.
The assembly will feature sessions across three main committees: Plenary, Committee A, and Committee B. The Plenary session will mark the opening of the Health Assembly, attended by health ministers and heads of delegation from 194 nations. India has been given the prestigious role of chairing Committee A, where discussions will focus on critical issues such as universal health coverage, public health emergency preparedness and response, anti-microbial resistance, climate change, and sustainable financing for WHO.
Committee B will delve into internal and external audit matters, budgeting, and financing issues concerning WHO. Alongside the main sessions, at least 14 side events and several strategic roundtables are scheduled. These events will cover a wide range of health topics, offering participants an opportunity to share insights and propose directions for enhancing global health architecture.
India's leadership extends beyond its chairing responsibilities; it is also spearheading the Regional One Voice initiative for Southeast Asia. This initiative focuses on promoting well-being and health, addressing social determinants of health, improving maternal, infant, and young child nutrition, and exploring the intersection of economics and health for comprehensive healthcare access.
This participation underscores India's commitment to not only advancing its healthcare system but also contributing to global health discussions and solutions. By highlighting its achievements and sharing innovative tools like the Arogya Maitri Disaster Management Cube, India aims to play a pivotal role in fostering a more resilient global health ecosystem.
