Russia Backs India, China to Resolve Border Differences, Normalize Ties
Russia believes India and China can resolve their border disputes and normalize relations through mutual respect for sensitive interests.
Russian Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, expressed optimism that India and China will find ways to resolve their border disputes and normalize relations based on mutual respect for sensitive interests. Speaking at an event, Alipov highlighted various aspects of India-Russia engagement, emphasizing their focus on creating favorable conditions for mutual trade settlements, payment systems, and insurance to boost trade.

Addressing Trade Imbalances and Diversification
Alipov acknowledged the trade imbalance between India and Russia, with Russia benefiting from India's increased procurement of Russian crude oil since 2021. He emphasized the need to diversify bilateral trade and address the significant imbalances. The Russian envoy invited Indian businesses to explore the Russian market, recognizing the untapped potential for expanding the trade basket between the two countries.
Russia-India Relations: Multi-Dimensional and Robust
Despite challenging circumstances, Alipov affirmed that Russia-India relations remain multi-dimensional and robust. He expressed confidence that these relations will continue to grow based on mutual interest and trust, contributing to a shared vision of a more fair and just international order.
Cooperation within BRICS and SCO
Alipov discussed cooperation under the framework of BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa), highlighting Russia's recent assumption of the presidency for a one-year term. He emphasized the growing aspirations for a multipolar world based on sovereign equality and mutual respect, as reflected in the expansion of BRICS with the addition of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates as new members.
Regarding Pakistan's application for BRICS membership, Alipov stated that the focus is currently on accommodating those invited last year. He also mentioned the potential of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in strengthening connectivity in the Eurasian region, considering its role as a platform for countries seeking to counter emerging security challenges and promote inter-regional economic cooperation.
Russia's positive outlook on India-China relations and its commitment to strengthening ties with India, as well as its active participation in international organizations like BRICS and SCO, underscore its commitment to fostering cooperation and addressing global challenges.
