IMD Weather Forecast: Dense Fog And Rainfall Expected In India
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has that the late night and early morning hours in the days could bring dense to very dense fog across northwest India, particularly affecting Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh. This foggy condition is expected to cause disruptions in both transport and aviation operations. Additionally, a low pressure area forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 23 is projected to evolve into a depression, potentially impacting weather patterns and causing heavy rainfall across southern India.
A significant weather system forming over the southeast Bay of Bengal has been identified, with predictions indicating it may strengthen into a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal within the next two days. The IMD has highlighted this development, noting the potential for it to further intensify and move towards the Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coasts. This evolving weather scenario necessitates continuous monitoring for any changes in intensity and trajectory.

With the expected adverse weather conditions, including heavy rainfall and dense fog, the IMD has issued advisories for several regions. Southern states such as Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are advised to prepare for localized flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas. Furthermore, agricultural advisories have been issued, suggesting measures like providing adequate drainage in fields to prevent crop damage in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and other affected areas. For the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy showers, is anticipated, particularly in the Nicobar region on November 22 and 23.
The northeast of India, including Assam and Meghalaya, is also forecasted to experience light to moderate rainfall, with the possibility of isolated hailstorm activity around November 20. Neighboring states such as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to witness similar weather conditions from November 20 to 22. This comprehensive forecast underscores the need for preparedness across different regions of the country in response to the impending weather changes.
The IMD has also highlighted the health risks associated with dense fog, especially for individuals with lung-related illnesses. The fog, laden with particulate matter and other pollutants, can exacerbate respiratory conditions such as asthma and bronchitis. Long exposure to dense fog may lead to respiratory issues, eye infections, and other health problems. People are advised to take precautionary measures to minimize exposure and protect their health during foggy conditions.
