IMD predicts heavy rainfall,3/4 meters high seawave in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Aug 16: With a low pressure area over north Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood likely to intensify further, the IMD today warned Odisha government about heavy rainfall and an increase in the height of sea waves upto four meters.
"Seawave height may increase to three to four meters besides heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over north Odisha and heavy rainfall at one or two places over southern parts of the state during next 24 hours," the MeT office said in its latest release.

Stating that the yesterday's low pressure has now developed as a well marked low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood today, the IMD said with its associated upper air cyclonic circulation extending upto 5.8 km above mean sea level.
"The system is likely to concentrate into a depression by tomorrow," it said. The low pressure which is likely to intensify into depression by tomorrow, will have its impact with gusty surface wind with speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph gusting 65 kmph may prevail along and off Odisha coast.
"Sea condition would be rough to very rough in Odisha coast. Seawave height may increase upto 3 to 4 meters," it said. The weather office advised fishermen not to venture into sea in Odisha Coast.
