IMD Predicts Extended Spell Of Rain, Thunderstorms Across India, Delhi To Remain Cloudy Till April 6

After two days of continuous rainfall in Delhi, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that wet and unstable weather conditions will continue across large parts of the country.

The ongoing spell of rain, thunderstorms, and even hailstorms is being driven by two active western disturbances affecting northwest India.

According to the IMD, this pattern is likely to continue for the rest of the week, with cloudy skies expected in the national capital until April 6.

Delhi to See Cloudy Skies and Intermittent Rain

Delhi has already experienced a noticeable change in weather over the past few days, with light to moderate rainfall bringing some relief from heat.

The IMD has said that:

• Light rain and thunderstorms may continue in the coming days
• Similar weather conditions are likely around April 3 and 4
• Skies will remain mostly cloudy until early next week

Despite the rainfall, no extreme weather is expected in the capital.

Temperature to Rise Gradually

Even as rain continues, temperatures in Delhi are expected to increase slightly.
The weather department has predicted a gradual rise of about 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next three days. Recent data shows that maximum temperatures have dropped slightly by 1 to 2 degrees, while minimum temperatures have remained stable.

This mix of rain and rising temperatures is likely to keep the weather variable.

Rain and Strong Winds Expected in North India

The IMD has also issued a broader forecast for northern states.
Rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 50 km/h is expected in:

• Punjab
• Haryana
• Chandigarh
• Delhi
• West Uttar Pradesh
• West Rajasthan

These conditions may extend to eastern Rajasthan as well, affecting multiple regions simultaneously.

Fresh Weather Activity Expected Later This Week

A new western disturbance is likely to intensify weather activity again in the coming days.
Between April 3 and April 6, areas such as Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may witness:

• Rainfall
• Thunderstorms
• Strong winds

This could lead to continued unsettled weather across northern India.

Eastern and Central India Also on Alert

The impact of the weather system is not limited to the north.
In eastern India:

• West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms until April 2

In central India:

• Thunderstorm and lightning activity is likely to continue until April 6
• Some areas may also experience hailstorms until April 2
