IFFI 2017: It is about entertainment, entrepreneurial aspiration of youth says Prasar Bharti CEO

The IFFI 2017 will be held on November 20 and national broadcaster Doordarshan is set to make a grand show of it. Special segments, live updates would be beamed by Doordarshan and the idea is to ensure that those who could not make it Goa would still feel that they are there.

CEO, Prasar Bharti Shashi Shekhar in an interview with Doordarshan speaks about what the focus would be. He says that it would be a celebration of stories of India. There is a large population which is young and has very high aspirations.

The choice and activities would be a reflection of this. The public broadcaster would ensure that the festival is viewed by every home in India. It would be a peoples' festival Shahi Shekhar also says. He further adds that there would be an emphasis on both global and regional cinema at the festival.

The festival he says would not just be about entertainment, but it would also be about the entrepreneurial aspiration of the youth, he says. if you look at the Indian economy, the strength is the demographic dividend. We also have a democratic system of government where the creative restriction is not restricted to how you would see in China. That is the edge we have, he also adds,

Shashi Shekhar also says that the focus at the festival would be both on global and regional cinema.

The opening movie is by an Iranian filmmaker who has made a film on India. There is a special segment on James Bond and a special focus on Canada as well, he adds.

The Prasar Bharti CEO further adds that they are going to create a lot of buzz around the festival. This week an hour and half of prime time are about the festival. The focus is on the journey of the festival and other interesting segments.

During the festival, we will have a 90-minute segment called the IFFI Dhamaka. This would focus on the buzz, screening and also the experience of the participants apart from live updates. Doordarshan will ensure that those who are not in Goa at the time of the festival will feel like they are there, he says.
