How will Tripura vote: A closer look at the issues

In the 2018 elections, the BJP put up an impressive show. This time with the Left and Congress joining hands and the rise of the Tipra Motha party, will the final outcome be different

New Delhi, Feb 14: As per American naturalist, Henry David Thoreau, "All voting is a sort of gaming, like checkers or backgammon, with a slight moral tinge to it, a playing with right and wrong."

The similar phase of right and wrong game is happening in some Indian states as assembly elections draw near and the northeast hilly state Tripura is one of them.

How will Tripura vote: A closer look at the issues

Ahead of this election, we will mainly focus on the major political issues today -

As we all know, Tripura has been making several headlines on 'Greater Tipraland' every since and then. And the reason is, TIPRA Motha, a party led by Pradyot Manikya Debbarman, has assured to provide a separate state for the indigenous communities, which is titled as the 'Greater Tipraland'. The indigenous communities are also seen hopeful after receiving the proposal, moreover, shown anti-revolutionary gesture at Jantar Mantar on Nov 30 and Dec 1 with the demand of getting an ethnic homeland.

The other question that has been risen multiple times is what is at stake for the BJP in Tripura.

First reason is the TIPRA Motha has initiated to make a Greater Tipraland and this could a worry for the BJP-IPFT alliance in the tribal areas of the state.

Additionally, the newly formed party holds a strong bond with general constituencies along with the tribal dominated areas.

Apart from this, the past two bitter rivals - the Congress and the Left have now combined together during its impending assembly election. To this, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury expressed his view during an interview. As he said that in the 60-member Tripura assembly, 20 seats are already reserved for tribal areas. If we look back, in 2018 election, the BJP had bagged a total of 36 seats to form the government and half of them were from the tribal region. And this time, the Tipra Motha is leading in tribal areas. And the IPFT has been given just five seats.

The benefit that BJP received last time may not be repeated anymore. Will this alter the outcome and will it help the Left-Congress alliance? Time will tell.

On the contrary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi explained why Tripura needs BJP. During a recent rally he said that the masses should stay united and vote peacefully as under the BJP Tripura is witnessing rapid development. The BJP leader also reminded that in last five years the state received a modernised airport and several other infrastructure projects.

He also said that they will suffer if the Left and the Congress get back to the state as they want to fill their coffers without thinking for people's welfare. The PM also pointed out how the Left party made their lives chaotic and now the Congress is not hesitating before shaking hands with them.

Or, will the Congress and the Left alliance pull the strings? Now it's the real face-off time for all the power parties as the election inches closer.
