Himachal Pradesh Weather Update: Orange Alert Till Friday, Monsoon Toll Reaches 219

Himachal Pradesh continues to reel under the impact of relentless monsoon rains, with the state government issuing an orange alert for the next four days. The weather department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall across multiple districts, raising concerns over further landslides, flash floods, and road blockages.

According to official figures, the death toll from monsoon-related incidents since June has reached 219, with dozens more injured. The downpour has caused widespread damage to infrastructure, with over 300 roads - including key highways - currently closed due to landslides and flooding. Rural and mountainous areas remain the worst affected, with many villages cut off from essential supplies.

The Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) reported that several bridges have been washed away, while rivers and streams are flowing above danger levels. Authorities have deployed emergency teams for rescue and relief operations, and efforts are underway to restore road connectivity.

Electricity supply disruptions and mobile network outages have further compounded difficulties for residents. The Public Works Department has been working round the clock to clear debris, but continuous rainfall is slowing progress.

Meteorologists have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel and stay away from riverbanks. Tourists have also been urged to postpone visits to hill stations in the state until weather conditions improve.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has reviewed the situation and instructed district officials to ensure timely relief to affected families. He has also appealed to the central government for additional funds to expedite restoration works.

With the India Meteorological Department's orange alert in place, Himachal Pradesh remains on high alert, bracing for more rain in the coming days.
