Hazaribagh Polls Heat Up: BJP's Internal Strife Leads To Triangular Battle

The Hazaribagh assembly constituency in Jharkhand is set for a highly competitive election as it is set to witness a three-way contest following an internal dispute within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The BJP has nominated Pradeep Prasad, whereas Munna Singh is the Congress's choice. Adding to the drama, Harsh Ajmera, a disillusioned former member of the BJP, has thrown his hat into the ring as an independent candidate, citing discontent with the party's choice of candidate, ANI reported.

Hazaribagh Election 2023 A Competitive Three-Way Race Between BJP Congress And Independent Candidate

Amidst this political turmoil, Harsh Ajmera, who has garnered substantial support from the youth of Hazaribagh, has vocally criticized the BJP for selecting a candidate allegedly involved with the land mafia. Ajmera's decision to contest independently stems from his belief that the people of Hazaribagh deserve a representative untainted by controversy.

He stated, "It is the need of the people to have a better representative, and that's why I am contesting as an independent." This move signifies a significant challenge to the traditional candidates, potentially splitting the vote and adding unpredictability to the election outcome.

A Triangular Contest Emerges

Pradeep Prasad of the BJP remains confident, buoyed by the support garnered following a rally by Yogi Adityanath. Prasad emphasized the BJP's stronghold on the seat and the public's dissatisfaction with the JMM-Congress alliance. He also highlighted the issue of Bangladeshi infiltration, promising action if elected. "This seat is our stronghold, and we will retain it. After Yogi Adityanath's public rally in Hazaribagh, the atmosphere shifted in our favour. The people of Jharkhand are fed up with the JMM-Congress alliance government. In this election, the people of Jharkhand will vote for the BJP, and we will form a strong government here," Prasad stated, underlining his campaign's focus areas.

Contrastingly, Munna Singh of the Congress, representing the Rajput community, is equally optimistic about his electoral prospects. Banking on the visible achievements of Hemant Soren's government and anticipating a boost from Rahul Gandhi's upcoming rally, Singh believes in the Congress's appeal to the electorate. "The work done by Hemant Soren's government in the last five years is visible to the people of Jharkhand. The Maiya Samman Yojna, especially, will be a boost for women in Jharkhand. Soon, Rahul Gandhi will hold a public rally in support of the India Alliance, which will give us even more momentum," Singh commented, highlighting the key strategies of his campaign.

The Road to the Elections

The electoral battle in Hazaribagh is not just a test for the candidates but also a reflection of the shifting dynamics within Jharkhand's politics. The BJP has historically dominated this seat, with Manish Jaiswal securing victories in both the 2014 and 2019 assembly elections. However, the party faced challenges in selecting a suitable candidate after Jaiswal's move to the Lok Sabha, leading to the current predicament. With a substantial number of OBC and Muslim voters, the constituency's demographic composition is expected to play a crucial role in determining the outcome.

The Jharkhand Assembly, consisting of 81 seats, is bracing for elections in two phases, on November 13 and 20, with the vote count set for November 23. Approximately 2.6 crore voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballots, including over 11.84 lakh first-time voters and 66.84 lakh young voters. This demographic could significantly influence the election's direction, considering the varied candidate profiles and political platforms.

In the 2020 Assembly elections, the political landscape saw the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) securing 30 seats, while the BJP and Congress won 25 and 16 seats, respectively. This marked a shift from the 2014 elections, where the BJP led with 37 seats. The upcoming elections are a crucial moment for all parties involved, testing their strength and appeal among the electorate of Jharkhand.

To conclude, the Hazaribagh assembly constituency is at the center of a gripping political narrative, with a three-cornered contest that could potentially alter the political equations in Jharkhand. The emergence of an independent candidate with significant youth support, alongside traditional party candidates, has added an unpredictable element to the election. As the state prepares to vote, all eyes are on Hazaribagh to see how this political drama unfolds.
