Haryana: Migrant Worker From Bengal Lynched By Cow Vigilantes On Suspicion Of Eating Beef

A migrant worker from West Bengal, Sabir Malik, was allegedly beaten to death by members of a cow vigilante group in Haryana's Charkhi Dadri district on August 27, 2024, over suspicions that he had consumed beef.

According to a PTI report, five people, including two minors, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police reports indicate that the accused lured Malik to a shop under the pretense of selling empty plastic bottles before violently attacking him.

Despite intervention from locals, the attackers relocated Malik to another spot, where they continued the assault, leading to his death.

Malik, who lived in a shanty near Bandhra village, made a living by collecting waste and empty bottles.

The arrested have been identified as Abhishek, Mohit, Ravinder, Kamaljit, and Sahil. They suspected Malik of consuming beef.

A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

This tragic incident adds to a growing pattern of lynching and mob violence by cow vigilante groups in Haryana over the past decade.

In 2023, a particularly brutal case saw two Muslim men from Rajasthan's Bharatpur district, Nasir and Junaid, abducted and burned to death in a car in Haryana's Bhiwani district, sparking nationwide outrage.

The leader of a Bajrang Dal cow vigilante group, Monu Manesar, and 20 others were booked in connection with the crime following intense public and political pressure.
