The registration number HR-88-B-8888, from the Badhra sub-division in Charkhi Dadri district, attracted this record bid during an online auction. The process required a Rs 1,000 participation fee and a Rs 10,000 security deposit.

Contacted on Wednesday evening, the businessman, who is in his late 30s and prefers to remain anonymous, shared insights about his decision. He hails from a village in Bhiwani district, though his family now resides elsewhere in Haryana. He mentioned that the base price for the number was Rs 50,000 and he hadn't anticipated bidding so high.

Fancy Number Bidding Trends

The businessman explained that he didn't have a specific budget in mind but was drawn to the number. "I liked the number and just went ahead," he said. He has yet to decide on the vehicle for which this number will be used. When asked about purchasing a vehicle, he replied, "We are figuring that out."

He also noted that he didn't expect the bid to attract such attention. "I was not expecting that this bid would generate such a hype," he remarked. His business interests include transport and software development, with a focus on creating a transport-related mobile app.

High Bids for Unique Numbers

Chandigarh has also seen significant bids for fancy numbers over the years. This year alone, one of these numbers fetched over Rs 36 lakh. Such high bids reflect a growing trend among individuals seeking unique vehicle identifiers.

The businessman now has five days to deposit the bid amount to secure the number. If all procedures are completed within this timeframe, the number will be officially allotted to him.

This incident highlights the increasing interest in distinctive vehicle numbers across regions like Haryana and Chandigarh. As more people engage in such auctions, it underscores the cultural value placed on unique identifiers.
