BJP MP and industrialist Naveen Jindal arrived at a polling station in Kurukshetra, Haryana, riding a horse to cast his vote for the Haryana assembly elections.

Jindal had left the Congress party and joined the BJP earlier this year ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in March.

His mother, Savitri Jindal, who is the chairperson of the O P Jindal Group, is contesting the Haryana assembly election as an Independent candidate from the Hisar constituency, where she is running against Haryana minister and current MLA Kamal Gupta.

After casting her vote, Savitri Jindal urged voters to participate in the election, stating, "I have cast my vote. This is the election of the people of Hisar; everyone should vote. I will try to make Hisar beautiful and developed."

Her daughter, Seema Jindal, also cast her vote, adding, "Pehle matdan phir jalpan - It is a 'yagna' for our country, city, and state. So, everyone should cast their vote."

Haryana is holding its assembly elections in a single phase, with 1,031 candidates, including 101 women, vying for seats in the 90-member assembly. The BJP, which has been in power since 2014, is aiming for a third consecutive term, while the Congress hopes to regain power, fueled by anti-incumbency sentiments and issues such as farmer and wrestler protests.

Prominent candidates include Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini of the BJP, senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and ex-deputy CM Dushyant Chautala. Another key candidate is former wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who recently joined Congress and is contesting her first election.

The results of the Haryana assembly election will be announced on October 8.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP won 40 seats, forming a coalition government with the JJP, which secured 10 seats. The Congress won 31 seats. The JJP later withdrew from the coalition.
