Haryana Adds 4,000 New Play Schools to Boost Early Childhood Education

Haryana’s Minister of Women and Child Development, Aseem Goyal, announced the opening of 4,000 additional play schools in the state.

This follows the success of the initial 4,000 play schools launched earlier. The primary aim is to offer free and quality pre-school education to all children in Haryana.

Haryana s Big Leap in Early Childhood Education

Minister Aseem Goyal highlighted that these play schools are designed to ensure optimal development and care for children aged three to six. The Haryana government decided to upgrade 4,000 Anganwadi Centers into play schools as part of implementing the National Education Policy 2020. This initiative focuses on providing high-quality pre-school education through play.

The play schools, managed by the Department of Women and Child Development, are decorated with vibrant colours and creative paintings. The attractive buildings aim to draw children to school willingly. These schools provide basic skills to children aged 3 to 6 in a fun environment, preparing them for primary education without the burden of traditional schooling.

Minister Goyal explained that historically, children's playgrounds were their home courtyards and streets before formal schooling began. In today's era, parents desire quality education for their children from an early age. Hence, the state government has set up these play schools to ensure children learn through play starting at age three. These facilities are available throughout the state, including for children from poor families, ensuring equal development opportunities.

In the first phase of this plan, a State Resource Group was formed with cooperation from the First Institution across Haryana. Each district formed a team comprising a Child Development Project Officer, an Education Department spokesperson, and two supervisors. Initially, these teams underwent self-study classes followed by advanced training sessions.

In the second phase, all Child Development Project Officers and supervisors in Haryana received training. Finally, all 25,962 Anganwadi workers in the state were trained in modern teaching techniques. This comprehensive training ensures they can effectively engage children and foster interest in attending play schools.

The Minister emphasised that these initiatives reflect the government's commitment to providing quality education from an early age. By transforming Anganwadi Centers into play schools, Haryana aims to create a strong foundation for children's future learning experiences.

The expansion of play schools is part of a broader strategy to enhance early childhood education across Haryana. The focus remains on making learning enjoyable and accessible for all children, regardless of their socio-economic background.

This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy 2020's goals of improving early childhood care and education. By investing in these foundational years, Haryana aims to ensure that every child has a bright future ahead.
