Gurgaon Records 0.4°C, Vehicles Coated in Frost; Delhi-NCR May See Light Drizzle, Check IMD Weather Forecast

The suburbs of Gurgaon and the outskirts of Delhi NCR woke up to a thick layer of ground frost on Monday, 26th January 2026. Bandwari recorded a minimum temperature of 0.4°C, and vehicles left outside were coated in a layer of frozen dew, turning into ice.

This chilly weather comes as an intense Western Disturbance begins affecting the Western Himalayan region, expected to last until 28th January. The system will bring light to moderate rain across several states, with isolated heavy rain, snowfall, and hailstorm in certain areas.

What the Western Disturbance Means

The IMD explains that this weather pattern is driven by a cyclonic circulation over Himachal Pradesh and adjoining Punjab, along with upper-level atmospheric troughs over Uttar Pradesh. A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to affect northwest India from the night of 26th January, followed by another system from 30th January.

The effect will be felt differently across regions:

In the Himalayan states of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, the IMD predicts widespread rain and snowfall between 26th and 28th January. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of up to 70 kmph are likely, while isolated heavy snowfall and hailstorms may occur in higher reaches. Travelers in hill stations are advised to exercise caution, as roads could be slippery and travel may be disrupted in snow-covered areas.

Across the plains of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, the Western Disturbance will cause scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph in some areas.

In Delhi NCR, residents can expect light drizzle on 27th January, while frosty mornings will continue, creating slippery conditions on roads and vehicles. Commuters are advised to dress warmly, allow extra travel time, and check their vehicles for ice before heading out.

What to Expect in the Coming Days

Monday is expected to be the coldest day for many NCR suburbs, with foggy mornings and frost lingering on vehicles throughout the early hours. From 27th January, light rain and drizzle are predicted in Haryana, Punjab, and Delhi, while gusty winds will add to the chill. Meanwhile, snow and hail may continue in higher elevations of the Himalayan region, potentially affecting travel.

By 28th January, rainfall is expected to ease in most plains, but showers and snow may persist over Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The IMD has urged residents to stay updated with local weather forecasts and take appropriate precautions while traveling or venturing outdoors in cold and frosty conditions.

This Western Disturbance is shaping up to have a wide-ranging impact on North India, bringing a mix of frost, drizzle, rain, snow, and hail across the plains and mountains alike, with Delhi NCR and Gurgaon residents feeling the coldest mornings of the season.
