Isn't the first big tragedy in India: Amit Shah on Gorakhpur hospital deaths

The NHRC has sent a notice to Uttar Pradesh government over the Gorakhpur hospital tragedy

"There have been multiple tragedies in a big country like India, this is not the first time. Such incidents have happened during Congress' rule as well," Amit Shah said about Gorakhpur hospital deaths. When asked about the onus on Yogi Adityanath government, the BJP National President said that 'unlike the Congress, BJP believes in inquiring first'.

Shah was speaking in Bengaluru when he was asked about the unfortunate deaths in Gorakhpur hospital. Lashing out at the Congress for demanding Yogi Adityanath's resignation over the death of children in a hospital in Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister's own constituency.

Distancing the Yogi Adityanath government from a circular encouraging people to celebrate Krishna Janmashtami in a 'grand manner', Shah said that festivals were a matter of personal choice and the government had nothing to do with it. "The death of children is very unfortunate and we are all sad but one can't stop people from celebrating Krishna Janmashtami. And as far as the circular goes, the UP government is not celebrating the festival. But likewise, the government cannot stop anyone from celebrating," he said.

"It is the Congress' job to seek resignation," he mocked while craftily refusing to acknowledge that the government communique asking for grand celebrations of Krishna Janmashtami was distasteful in the backdrop of unfortunate deaths of children in Gorakhpur hospital.
