Haryana Assembly Passes Bill for Gita Jayanti Mahotsav Authority

The Haryana Assembly has approved a bill to establish an independent authority responsible for organizing the annual Gita Jayanti Mahotsav and promoting the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.

The Haryana Assembly has taken a significant step in promoting the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and organizing the annual Gita Jayanti Mahotsav by passing a bill to establish an independent authority. This authority aims to popularize and disseminate the profound wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred Hindu scripture, and enhance the experience of pilgrims and visitors during the Mahotsav.

Gita Jayanti Celebrations to Get a Boost with New Authority in Haryana

Need for an Independent Authority

Currently, there is no independent body responsible for organizing the Gita Jayanti Mahotsav in the state. Recognizing this need, the Haryana government has proposed the establishment of a statutory authority to manage, regulate, and organize the Antarrashtriya International Gita Mahotsav efficiently. This authority will ensure proper arrangements and provide better facilities to the devotees and visitors during the Mahotsav period.

Functions of the Authority

The primary functions of the authority will be to popularize and disseminate the teachings of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita. It will organize cultural and educational seminars, workshops, fairs, exhibitions, and conferences to promote a deeper understanding of the Gita's teachings. Additionally, the authority will provide essential facilities to the devotees and pilgrims, ensuring a comfortable and enriching experience during the Mahotsav.

Composition of the Authority

The authority will comprise various members, including the Chief Minister as its Chairperson and the Urban Local Bodies Minister as the Senior Vice-Chairperson. An eminent and distinguished person nominated by the state government will serve as the Vice Chairperson. Suggestions were made during the Assembly session to include the Speaker, the Leader of Opposition, and some MLAs as members of the authority.

Clarifying the Role of Kurukshetra Development Board

In response to concerns raised by some members regarding the existing Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB), Minister Kamal Gupta clarified that the KDB will continue to function as before. However, the new authority will specifically focus on expanding the Gita Jayanti festival on a global scale and disseminating the message of the Bhagavad Gita worldwide.

Examples of Separate Authorities

Chief Minister M L Khattar cited examples of separate authorities formed to manage grand-scale events, such as Faridabad's annual Surajkund Mela. He emphasized that the KDB has its role, which will remain unchanged, while the new authority will have a specific mandate to enhance the Gita Jayanti Mahotsav and promote the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita globally.

The Haryana Assembly's decision to establish an independent authority for the Gita Jayanti Mahotsav reflects the state government's commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of India. By creating a dedicated body, the government aims to ensure that the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita reach a wider audience and inspire individuals to lead more meaningful and enlightened lives.
