G20 Summit: US President Biden's First Stop - PM Modi's Residence In Delhi
US President Joe Biden arrived in New Delhi on Friday for the G20 Summit and is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence on Lok Kalyan Marg, situated in the heart of the national capital.

Prior to President Biden's arrival in Delhi, American National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated that the bilateral meeting would build upon discussions held during Prime Minister Modi's state visit to Washington DC in June. These discussions include the GE jet engine deal, India's procurement of Predator drones, cooperation in the 5G/6G realm, and civil nuclear cooperation. Additionally, Biden plans to engage with Modi on matters related to the "critical, fundamental values" that the US advocates for.
During a briefing on Air Force One while Biden was en route from DC to Germany, where a refueling stop was made before heading to Delhi, Sullivan emphasized the US's deep interest in guiding the G20 and ensuring its continued role as a central mechanism for global coordination on major challenges. The US is set to assume the presidency of the G20 in 2025-2026.
Sullivan noted that coordinators had been working diligently on a joint statement for the summit but acknowledged that there was still some way to go before reaching a final communique. He affirmed the US's readiness to contribute to a joint statement, provided that every country acts responsibly and constructively. Sullivan's remarks alluded to perceived obstructionism from Russia and China.
Reports suggest that the summit's sidelines may witness the unveiling of a significant infrastructure announcement by the I2U2 group, consisting of India, Israel, UAE, and the US. Sullivan highlighted the importance of connectivity spanning from India through the Middle East to Europe, emphasizing its potential economic and strategic benefits for all involved nations.
Regarding the nature of the bilateral meeting with Modi and press access, Sullivan pointed out that it would take place at the PM's residence. He explained that this visit differs from a typical bilateral visit to India, given the G20 host's role and the protocols set by Prime Minister Modi. Nevertheless, Sullivan pledged to provide a transparent and comprehensive readout of the meeting.
