Ravneet Bittu Criticises AAP for Unfulfilled Promises in Punjab Before New Delhi Schemes

Union minister Ravneet Singh Bittu criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday, urging it to fulfil its promises to Punjab before launching new schemes in Delhi. At a press conference, Bittu accused AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal of neglecting commitments in Punjab, such as providing Rs 1,000 monthly to women. He questioned Kejriwal's focus on free schemes in Delhi while ignoring Punjab's issues.

Bittu Urges AAP to Address Punjab Issues First

Bittu highlighted the drug problem in Punjab, noting that Kejriwal had promised to tackle it but failed to take effective action. He pointed out that Punjab recorded 144 drug overdose deaths in 2023, the highest nationwide. The minister also expressed concerns about the law-and-order situation under AAP's governance, mentioning a 10% increase in rape cases last year and the assassination of singer Sidhu Moose Wala after his security was reduced.

Controversies and Criticisms

The Union minister further criticised AAP over the liquor policy controversy in Delhi, alleging that it has led to increased alcoholism. He also accused the party of failing to address the brain drain issue in Punjab, with more people migrating to countries like Canada despite promises to tackle this problem. Bittu claimed that former Delhi education minister Manish Sisodia's son is studying in Canada, funded by AAP Rajya Sabha MPs Ashok Mittal and Sanjay Arora.

Bittu questioned AAP's education model in Delhi, labelling it a "super flop scheme." He claimed no new schools have opened in the capital for 12 years, contradicting AAP leaders' claims about their education initiatives. There was no immediate response from AAP regarding these allegations.

Political Climate and Upcoming Elections

Bittu's remarks come as political tensions rise ahead of the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aims to regain power in the capital after over 25 years, while AAP seeks a third consecutive term. Election results are expected on February 8.

The political landscape is charged as parties prepare for the upcoming polls. Bittu's criticisms highlight ongoing debates over governance and accountability in both Punjab and Delhi. As election day approaches, these issues remain central to political discourse.
