Former Arunachal Pradesh CM Kalikho Pul commits suicide

Itanagar, Aug 9: Former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Kalikho Pul committed suicide at the chief minister's residence in capital city. This has been confirmed by Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein.

Kalikho Pul, the former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh was found dead at his residence this morning.

Police also recovered a suicide note from his room where he was found hanging from a ceiling fan.

"He was found hanging in his room.. He has apparently committed suicide," former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki was quoted as saying.

"The government will lead an inquiry in to the case after the post-mortem report," he added.

Tuki condoled his death and extended party's support to family in grief.

Pul served as chief minister for a period of four-and-a-half months in early 2016, but had to resign in the wake of an adverse Supreme Court verdict announced in July 2016.

Pul, who represented Hyuliang constituency in eastern Arunachal Pradesh, had been winning from the constituency for last five terms.

He had served in various capacities in the Arunachal Pradesh cabinet including as the finance minister, power minister and tribal affairs minister.
