Feeling Of Betrayal: Former Jharkhand CM Champai Soren Opens Up On Delhi Visit, Speculations To Join BJP

Champai Soren, a leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), expressed his dismay over being asked to resign after Hemant Soren was granted bail. He described this as a "blow to self-respect." The former Jharkhand Chief Minister shared his feelings in a post on X, stating that he felt "broken from within" for the first time in his four-decade-long political career.

He revealed that on Hul Diwas, June 30, he discovered that his programs were cancelled by the party leadership for the next two days. A meeting of MLAs and INDIA bloc leaders was scheduled for July 3, and he was instructed not to attend any programs. "Can there be anything more humiliating in a democracy than a Chief Minister's programs being cancelled by another person?" he questioned.

Options After Resignation

After stepping down as Chief Minister on July 3, Champai Soren considered three options: retiring from politics, forming his own organisation, or joining another party if he found a suitable companion. He hinted at possibly joining another party before the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections. "From that day till today, and till the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections, all options are open for me in this journey," he added.

The 67-year-old JMM leader took over as Chief Minister after Hemant Soren's arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31 in an alleged land scam case. Champai Soren stepped down after Hemant Soren was granted bail by the Jharkhand High Court. He said he was unaware of the agenda of the meeting where he was asked to resign.

Feelings of Betrayal

"Although the Chief Minister has the right to call a meeting of the MLAs, I was not even told the agenda of the meeting. During the meeting, I was asked to resign. I was surprised, but I had no greed for power, so I immediately resigned, but it was a blow to my self-respect," Champai Soren stated.

He further expressed that he felt as if he had "no existence in the party" despite dedicating his entire life to it. He mentioned several other "insulting events" but chose not to elaborate on them. "After so much insult and contempt, I was forced to look for an alternative path," he said in his post.

Soren also shared that his programs were cancelled three days before the meeting where he was asked to step down as Chief Minister. This cancellation deeply hurt him and made him feel betrayed by his own people. He reflected on these events and searched for any mistakes on his part during those two days.

"I did not have the greed for power even a bit, but to whom could I show this blow to my self-respect? Where could I express the pain inflicted by my own people?" Champai Soren added in his post.

The former Chief Minister's emotional outpouring highlights his sense of betrayal and humiliation within his own party. His future political moves remain uncertain as he contemplates various options ahead of the Jharkhand Assembly elections.
