'Not 99/100, It Is 99/543': PM Modi Mocks Congress

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday attacked the opposition in the Parliament, saying it suffered a huge defeat despite spreading lies against the BJP in the recently concluded Lok Sabha election.

In his Motion of Thanks on the President's Address, PM Modi said, "The public has chosen us in the world's largest election campaign and I can understand the pain of some people. Despite spreading lies continuously, they suffered a huge defeat."

He stated that his party has been blessed by the country for its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. He stated, "Today India's credibility has increased across the world...The sole aim of our every policy, every decision, every action has been India first."

"Yesterday and today, several MPs have expressed their views of the President's address, especially those who have come among us for the first time as Parliamentarians. They followed all the rules of the Parliament and their behaviour was like that of an experienced Parliamentarian and despite being the first timer, they have enhanced the dignity of the House and have made this debate more valuable with their views..." he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted that the government had resolved to pursue the development of India, committing to dedicated and honest efforts towards this goal. He underscored their commitment to utilizing every moment in fulfilling this resolution.

"This country has seen the politics of appeasement for a long time and the model of governance of appeasement for a long time...'Hum tushtikaran nahi santushtikaran ke vichaar ko lekar chalein hai'," he continued.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lamented that during a previous era, it was openly acknowledged that out of every rupee allocated from Delhi, only 15 paise reached its intended destination, with 85 paise being lost to corruption.

He described this period of widespread corruption as plunging the country into despair, causing policy paralysis and economic fragility. Modi highlighted the difficulties faced by ordinary citizens, noting that even obtaining basic necessities like housing or gas connections required navigating through a maze of bribery and inefficiency, often with no success even after seeking help from lawmakers.

Attacking the Congress further, PM Modi said, "The people of this country have given a mandate to the Congress in the 2024 elections and the mandate of this country is that you sit there, sit in the opposition and when the arguments end, keep shouting."

He said that the period before 2014 the phrase "Iss desh ka kuch nahi ho sakta" (Nothing can happen in this country) had deeply influenced Indian society, leading to widespread despair. He noted that the electorate had chosen his government to lead, marking the beginning of a transformative era.

Over the past decade, he highlighted numerous achievements, but singled out the accomplishment of restoring hope, faith, and self-confidence to the nation as particularly significant. He claimed that this shift in perception led many to believe that anything was possible in India, contrasting sharply with the earlier pessimism.

In his usual style, the Prime Minister mocked the Congress for losing third time in a row. He said, "I remember an incident, there was a boy who scored 99 marks and he used to show it to everyone. When people heard 99, they used to encourage him a lot. Then a teacher came and said why are you distributing sweets? He did not score 99 out of 100 but 99 out of 543. Now who will explain to that child that you have created a world record in failure."
