Delhi shame: Afghan woman sexually assaulted inside hospital, staffer arrested

New Delhi, Aug 2: In yet another case of rising crime against women in the national capital, a housekeeping staffer has been arrested for sexually assaulting a 30-year-old woman from Afghanistan.

According to reports, the accused has been identified as 21-year-old, Amar Singh, who tried to force himself upon the victim, who was attending her ailing mother.

The shocking incident took place on July 25, inside South Delhi's Max Super Speciality Hospital, when the woman was sleeping in her mother's ward along with her younger sister.

In her complaint, woman was quoted saying as, "I was sleeping on the couch provided for attendants. Around 5am, I was woken up by some movement and noticed that a person was touching my private parts and trying to penetrate. I started screaming and pushed him away. My younger sister also woke up."

She said her tooth was also broke when she tried to push him and way. When she raised an alarm, security guards caught hold of him and called police.

The accused was produced before magisterial court on July 25 and has been remanded in judicial custody till August 8.

FIR was filed against him under sections of attempt to rape (376 C read with 511 IPC) and section 325 (pertaining to causing hurt as the woman was injured while saving herself.)

The woman from Kabul had arrived in Delhi on July 18, on a medical visa. Following the incident, the woman left for Afghanistan, along with her family.
