Delhi HC Grants Bail To Sharjeel Imam In 2020 Riots Case
The Delhi High Court granted bail to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) scholar Sharjeel Imam on Wednesday in a case related to the 2020 communal riots in Delhi.
The bench, comprising Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain, approved his bail. Imam was previously arrested under charges of sedition and offenses under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) due to his alleged 'inflammatory speeches' at Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia University and Aligarh Muslim University, which were linked to the Delhi riots.

Imam, a prominent student activist, faced these charges as part of broader investigations into the violence that occurred in Delhi in February 2020. The speeches he made were scrutinised for their content, which authorities claimed incited violence and promoted enmity among two communities.
This is a developing story. More details awaited.
