Delhi Govt Aims for Transparency with Faceless Document Submission Plan for Overage Vehicles
The Delhi government plans to launch a portal that will digitize the document submission process for overage vehicles. The initiative aims at ensuring transparency and efficiency in dealing with such cases. This comes after five million such vehicles were deregistered between January and October last year.
The Delhi government has recently announced its plan to digitize the process of document submission for overage vehicles, aiming to ensure transparency and eliminate physical interactions. This move comes in response to a large number of such vehicles being deregistered; approximately five million from January through October last year alone.
Transitioning To A Faceless Service

An official spokesperson from the Delhi government stated that they are planning on launching an online portal which will make the service entirely faceless. The new system is designed so that all necessary documents can be uploaded directly onto the platform, and any required undertakings can be submitted electronically as well. This initiative is expected to streamline processes while ensuring compliance with regulations.
Transport Department's Involvement
A second official confirmed that the Transport Department is almost ready with the specifics of this initiative, with plans underway for submitting a file detailing these points to Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot. However, it should be noted that this move isn't without precedent or external influence.
Court-Ordered Policy Framing
The Delhi High Court had previously directed the city government to establish a policy regarding how overage vehicles should be handled when their owners are willing to assure they won't be used within city limits. Unfortunately, progress on such policies was hindered due to administrative changes following directives issued by LG V K Saxena leading to disengagement of 437 consultants and experts who were working on these initiatives.
About fifty individuals who were part of the Transport Department faced termination due to these changes, causing significant delays in policy development including those related specifically to overage vehicles. Despite these setbacks however, efforts towards creating effective solutions have continued unabated.
Past Efforts And Future Plans
In 2018, there were a number of attempts made by the Delhi government to address the issue of overage vehicles, including deregistration drives and policy development. However, these initiatives were often met with obstacles and delays due to administrative changes and other unforeseen circumstances.
Regardless, the Delhi government remains committed to finding solutions for this problem, as evidenced by their recent plan to introduce an online portal for document submissions. This move towards digitization is expected not only streamline processes but also increase transparency in dealings related to overage vehicles.
In conclusion, while there have been several challenges along the way, it appears that progress is being made in managing overage vehicles within Delhi. The introduction of a faceless service for document submission represents a significant step forward in this journey. It will be interesting to see how this new system performs once implemented and whether it effectively addresses some of the issues that have been encountered thus far.
