Delhi Aims to Lead Global Electric Bus Fleet with Nearly 2,000 E-Buses, Says CM Atishi
Delhi's Chief Minister, Atishi, visited the Burari Electric Bus Depot on Friday to highlight the city's progress in electric mobility as part of its pollution control efforts. Delhi boasts nearly 2,000 electric buses, making it the second-largest fleet globally. Atishi attributed this achievement to the AAP government's dedication to developing a strong charging infrastructure, according to an official statement.

Delhi has faced severe air pollution issues, especially from October to December, for several years. In response, the city adopted electric buses as a proactive measure to combat pollution. "Today, our city is home to nearly 2,000 e-buses, and we're rapidly adding more to the fleet. Soon, Delhi will lead the world in this domain," Atishi stated.
Electric Bus Infrastructure
The Burari Electric Bus Depot exemplifies Delhi's success in electric bus implementation. It can accommodate 160 buses and features advanced technology, including 32 fast-charging stations capable of powering a bus for 150 kilometres in just one hour. The depot also has an automated washing system for efficient bus maintenance.
Atishi acknowledged the contributions of Transport department employees, describing the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) as the city's lifeline. She noted that DTC drivers and conductors transport over 40 lakh passengers daily. Their work is crucial for keeping the city operational and supporting its economy.
Commitment to Sustainable Transport
The AAP government remains committed to expanding the electric bus fleet and enhancing infrastructure to position Delhi as a global leader in sustainable urban transport. Atishi reiterated this commitment, emphasising support for DTC employees in fulfilling their duties effectively.
Delhi's efforts in adopting electric buses demonstrate a significant step towards reducing pollution and promoting sustainable transport solutions. The city's initiatives reflect a broader commitment to environmental sustainability and urban mobility advancements.
