Delhi Court Grants Bail To CM Arvind Kejriwal In Case For Skipping ED Summons

Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal against arrest for skipping the Enforcement Directorate's summons for questioning in relation to the now scraped Delhi Liquor Policy Case. The court told CM Kejriwal to furnish a personal bond of ₹ 15,000 and a security bond of ₹ 1 lakh for the bail.

CM Kejriwal violated IPC Section 174 when he skipped the ED's summons, forcing the agency to move to court seeking an arrest warrant for the Delhi Chief Minister.

The probe agency informed the court that AAP skipped eight summons issued under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, and is not ready to cooperate in the investigation.

The court has set next hearing in the case for April 1, 2024. The court had earlier directed CM Kejriwal to produce before the court physically, but now when he has been granted bail and admitted personal bond, he can attend the next hearing via video conferencing.

Pronouncing bail orders for Delhi Chief Minister, the court said: "offence being bailable, accused Arvind Kejriwal is admitted to bail".

Talking to the media, Aam Aadmi Party legal representative Sanjeev Nasiar said, "The Delhi court had summoned the Chief Minister. Last time he appeared before it via video-conferencing when he was directed again, he said that he would appear physically."

"He appeared today and submitted the bail bond. The bail was granted," he added.

Last time, CM Kejriwal skipped the in-person visit to the court stating he has to attend a key Assembly session and take the floor test to prove the mandate of his government.

The Delhi ruling party has been terming the ED's investigation a politically motivated move and conspiracy set up by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). CM Kejriwal has been criticising the Narendra Modi Government for misusing Central agencies.

AAP's top-notch leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are already behind bars in relation to Delhi Liquor Policy Case.
