Delhi CM Atishi Promises Pothole-Free Roads Before Diwali

Delhi's Chief Minister, Atishi, has announced that she and her cabinet ministers will begin inspecting the city's roads starting Monday. This initiative follows a letter from AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, urging immediate repairs for damaged roads. The inspections will involve government engineers and local MLAs, with repair work set to commence immediately after the assessments.

The decision was made during a meeting at the Delhi Secretariat on Sunday. Atishi chaired discussions with all ministers, the Delhi Chief Secretary, and Public Works Department (PWD) officials. They reviewed 1,400 kilometers of PWD roads to identify areas needing attention.

During the meeting, they pinpointed roads requiring complete rebuilding and sections needing 100-200 meters of repair. Potholes were also identified for fixing. "We've decided that the Delhi government will deliver pothole-free roads to the people before Diwali," Atishi stated confidently.

Atishi highlighted that rain has caused potholes throughout the city. She mentioned that agencies like the Delhi Jal Board, Tata Power, and BSES have dug up roads but left them unrepaired after their work, worsening road conditions in Delhi.

Ministerial Assignments

Atishi will oversee inspections in South and South East Delhi, while Saurabh Bhardwaj will focus on East Delhi. Gopal Rai is set to inspect North East Delhi; Kailash Gehlot will cover West and South West Delhi; Imran Hussain will handle Central and New Delhi. Newly appointed minister Mukesh Ahlawat will look into North and North-West Delhi roads.

The inspections are scheduled to start at 6 a.m. on Monday with local MLAs and PWD engineers joining the ministers. They aim to complete these inspections within a week. Once finished, repair work on these 1,400 kilometers of PWD roads will begin immediately with plans to assign repair jobs by October.

Kejriwal handed Atishi the letter in the Assembly on Friday, emphasizing urgent road repairs. The goal is to ensure safe and smooth travel for residents by addressing road issues promptly.
