BJP Celebrates Introduction of Women’s Reservation Bill as Raksha Bandhan Gift from PM Modi
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi unit has expressed its commendation for the introduction of the women's reservation bill in Lok Sabha on Ganesha Chaturthi. The party hailed it as a "Raksha Bandhan return gift" from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the women of India. This move comes as a response to a long-standing demand for increased representation of women in legislative bodies.
Meeting Long-Pending Demand

The government, on Tuesday, introduced a historic bill aimed at providing 33 per cent reservation to women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies. This significant step is seen as an effort to strengthen gender equality and empower women politically. The timing of this introduction, coinciding with Ganesh Chaturthi, was interpreted by Delhi BJP office-bearers as PM Modi's symbolic Raksha Bandhan return gift to Indian women.
Party Leaders Show Their Support
In a post-meeting statement, BJP leaders including general secretary Kamaljeet Sehrawat, secretary Bansuri Swaraj and Mahila Morcha president Richa Pandey Mishra among others expressed their gratitude towards the prime minister for his initiative. A resolution was also passed during the meeting that praised PM Modi's decision to make the Women’s Reservation Bill the first piece of legislation introduced in the new Parliament building.
Potential Impact on Women Empowerment
The party leaders strongly believe that this bill will bring about substantial change in Indian society by empowering women politically. As stated in their press release following their meeting: "This Bill will bring a significant change in the lives of women of India." It is hoped that such progressive steps would pave way for more inclusive governance and foster gender equity within political spaces.
Criticism from Opposition Parties
However, not everyone shares the same enthusiasm about the bill. Delhi BJP media cell head Praveen Shankar Kapoor criticized Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi and accused her and other leaders of her party of being in a state of "political shock" after the introduction of the bill.
In conclusion, while there may be differing opinions on this historic move, it is undeniable that it marks a significant milestone in India's journey towards gender equality. The Women’s Reservation Bill has long been seen as a necessary step to increase women's representation in political spaces. With its introduction, India seems to be moving closer to achieving this goal. However, it remains to be seen how effectively this law will be implemented and whether it will truly bring about the desired change in Indian society.
